In this Privacy Policy, the terms “we”, “our” and “us” mean Euro DNA Inc.

Effective Date and Scope

This Privacy Policy is effective as of Jan 1, 2021.

This Privacy Policy governs our practices with respect to Personal Information we collect through www.eurodna.ca and its associated webpages.

What Personal Information Do We Collect?

Personal information is information that identifies you or could be combined by us or our service providers and affiliates with other information to identify you. This information includes your personal e-mail address, your home address, your home telephone number, your personal cellphone number, your image, and may include your age, your income and other similar information when associated with you. Personal information may also be information containing details as to whether you have opened our promotional e-mails or how you have used our website, if we can associate that Personal Information with you. If you are a business customer or prospective business customer, Personal Information does not include your title, business address and business telephone number when we use that information to contact you in your business capacity.

We collect Personal Information from you when you create an account, make a purchase, enter a contest or promotion, communicate with us using our web forms to make a request or ask a question, submit a product review, take a survey or otherwise submit Personal Information to us with your communication. For example, we will request credit card and other identifying information to process a credit card transaction when you purchase a product through our website. We will also ask you for contact information in order to ship your product to you or the recipient that you designate.

We receive Personal Information about you from other sources. For example, we will receive information from credit card processors regarding whether the credit card details you gave us have been accepted or declined. We will receive information from shipping companies regarding whether the product we shipped was delivered or was undeliverable. We may also acquire information about you from other promotional or marketing companies with whom you shared your information and whom you have allowed to provide information to us.

How Do We Use Your Personal Information?

We use your information to provide products and services and to manage our business operations. Some examples include:

(a) to register your account;

(b) to authenticate you when you log into your account;

(c) to fulfill your requests for products and services;

(d) to communicate with you about your requests;

(e) to administer contests and promotions that you participate in;

(f) to recommend or to offer you other products and services based on your inferred interests;

(g) to post your product reviews;

(h) to communicate with you regarding customer service issues and any product recalls or warranty service; and

(i) to protect the security or integrity of our websites and our business.

We retain your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, while we have a legitimate business need to do so, or as required by law (e.g. for tax, legal, accounting or other purposes), whichever is longer. We maintain a records retention and destruction program to destroy information when it is no longer needed or required.

If you have elected to receive marketing communications from us, we retain information about your marketing preferences in accordance with applicable laws or until you opt out of receiving these communications and in accordance with our policies, whichever is longer.

To determine the applicable retention period for your Personal Information, we will consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the Personal Information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your Personal Information, the purposes for which we use your Personal Information and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements. In some circumstances we may anonymize your Personal Information so that it can no longer be associated with you, in which case it is no longer Personal Information.

Personalized Experience and Web Analytics

We also automatically collect information when you visit our website in order to customize your experience. For example, we collect information about what site referred you to our website, your browser type, operating system type and version, language, and your Internet Protocol (“IP”) address. We also collect information about how you browse through our website, including logging the pages you visit and the amount of time you spend on certain pages. We use this information for a number of technical purposes to ensure that our pages load correctly in your browser, as well as to personalize our offers to you. We also use this information to improve our website. For example:

(a) we use IP addresses to correct pages for your geographical location;

(b) we log the frequency of visits to certain pages on our website and how visitors navigate through our website in order to detect problems, improve our website and learn about what products and services are of interest to our customers;

(c) we use information about products that you have clicked on to make suggestions about other products or services that you might be interested in viewing; and

(d) we track whether certain types of promotional e-mails were opened by you and whether you sought information about a particular product or service in order to make inferences about other products and services you might be interested in.

In addition, if you create an account, we will use your purchase history with us and our affiliates to show you inventory based on your purchasing characteristics. This means that you may not see offers and inventory that other visitors to our site will see. If you would prefer not to have this level of customization, you may use our guest checkout experience and not create an account.

Regarding Children and Minors

Our website and the services offered on our website are not directed to children under the age of 13 years. We will not knowingly collect Personal Information about a child under the age of 13.

We do not allow minors (persons who are under the age of majority in their place of residence) to create accounts, make purchases or enter contests or promotions.

Do We Disclose Your Personal Information to Others?

We may share your Personal Information with our service providers and our corporate affiliates that help us with our business operations. For example, we will share information about your shipping address with companies that provide shipping services to us. We may also share or disclose your information at your direction, such as when you authorize a third-party service to access your account. We share information with service providers or our affiliates who provide us with marketing and promotional services. We require our service providers and our affiliates to keep your Personal Information secure. In addition, our service providers may not use or disclose Personal Information for any purpose other than providing the services on our behalf unless we or they have obtained your consent.

We may transfer any information we have about you in connection with a merger or sale (including transfers made as part of insolvency or bankruptcy proceedings) involving all or part of our business or as part of a corporate reorganization or stock sale or other change in corporate control.

We may also disclose your Personal Information if it is necessary for us to collect a debt from you or where we have reason to believe that it is relevant to the investigation or decision to investigate a breach of the laws of Canada, a province or territory of Canada, or a foreign jurisdiction, and we are legally permitted to do so.

Law Enforcement Requests

We will disclose Personal Information without your knowledge or consent if we receive an order, subpoena, warrant or other legal requirement issued by a court, tribunal, regulator or other person with jurisdiction to compel disclosure of your Personal Information. If we receive a written request from a police officer or other law enforcement agency with authority to request access to your Personal Information in the course of an actual or potential investigation into a breach of a law, our policy is to provide the requested information.

Storage Outside of Canada

Your Personal Information may be used or stored by us or our service providers and/or our corporate affiliates outside of Canada. We require that our service providers and/or our corporate affiliates safeguard your Personal Information. However, if your Personal Information is used or stored outside of Canada, it will also be subject to the laws of the country in which it is used or stored.

You can also store information such as your home and shipping address and credit card information in order to make future purchases faster. You will also be able to review your order history, past product reviews and track shipments.

You can modify your information by logging into your account and making the requested changes.

You may also choose to close your account and we will remove your account information from active use.

If you do not re-activate your account within 3 months, we will permanently delete your account. You may also contact us by one of the means set out in “About Us” to make a deletion request. Please note that we still maintain information that you provided to us for audit purposes or to comply with our legal obligations. We may also de-identify your information in order to continue to use it for research and analytics purposes to understand our business, to make product improvements and to make available to third parties. We prohibit our employees and third parties from attempting to re-identify information that we have de-identified.

How Do We Protect Your Personal Information?

We take administrative, technical and physical measures to safeguard your Personal Information against unauthorized access, unauthorized disclosure, theft and misuse. This includes limiting access of employees to, and the use of, your Personal Information through the use of passwords and graduated levels of clearance. We do not publish all of our security measures online because this may reduce their effectiveness. We take physical precautions to ensure that the computer servers on which your Personal Information is stored and archived are secure and that access to such servers is protected. We educate our employees with respect to their obligations to protect your Personal Information and we require our affiliates and any third-party service providers to take comparable steps to ensure the protection of any of your Personal Information that is shared with them.

We will make reasonable efforts to ensure that your Personal Information is accurate and complete. You may request correction to your Personal Information to ensure its accuracy and completeness. You may also request at any time that you be “forgotten”. This means we will erase all Personal Information about you in our possession (subject to applicable laws).  A request must be in writing and provide sufficient detail to identify your Personal Information and the correction or deletion being sought.

We are committed to ensuring the security of your Personal Information and will maintain appropriate administrative, physical, and technical safeguards for protection of the security, confidentiality and integrity of your Personal Information.  To achieve this goal, we may use passwords, encryption, firewalls, restricted employee access or other methods, in our discretion. We will use appropriate security measures when destroying your Personal Information such as shredding documents or deleting electronically stored information, in our discretion.

Although we take precautions against possible breaches of our security systems, no company can fully eliminate the risks of unauthorized access to your Personal Information and no website is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, hacking, data loss or breaches of our security systems will never occur. Accordingly, you should not transmit Personal Information to us using our website if you consider that information to be sensitive.

Use of Cookies

This portion of the Policy explains how cookies are used enterprise-wide on our website(s). By using this site you agree to the placement of cookies on your computer in accordance with the terms of this Policy. If you do not wish to accept cookies from our site(s) please take the required steps to disable cookies.

What are Cookies?

A "cookie" is a piece of data that a web server creates when you visit a web site. This data is information about how and when you use a site. It is placed on your computer, smartphone, smart TV or tablet (“online device”) in the form of a small text file. The information cannot be used to identify you personally. Cookies do not collect personal information such as your name, address, telephone number, or email address.

There are two main types of cookies:

  • Session cookies: these are temporary cookies that expire when you leave the site. Session cookies allow the website to recognize you as you navigate between pages during a single browser session and allow you to use the website most efficiently. For example, session cookies enable a website to remember that a user has placed items in an online basket.
  • Persistent cookies: in contrast to session cookies, persistent cookies are stored on your online device between browsing sessions until expiry or deletion. They therefore enable the website to "recognize" you on your return, remember your preferences, and tailor services to you.

We use both session cookies and persistent cookies on our website. The benefit of enabling cookies is that it will allow your use of our website(s) to be faster, easier and tailored to your interests.

Why we use Cookies

Many cookies are designed to give you optimal usage of the web. For example, we use cookies to collect information about your activity on our websites to enable us to improve your user experience when using our websites, e.g. a cookie which recognizes if your browser supports specific technology features. This helps, for example, in enabling web pages to be loaded more quickly when you request the download of a large file. The information that we collect and share is not personally identifiable. It does not include your name, address, telephone number or email address.

We use cookies on this website for the following purposes:

  • To collect statistical information: We use cookies to collect statistical information on how you use our websites for statistical and evaluation purposes to help us understand how users use the website and help us improve the structure of our website.
  • Engagement: We use cookies to collect non-identifiable information to gain a better understanding of customer behaviours on our website(s) to develop engagement strategies to better serve you. This data may be matched with internal customer information to provide you with services that better reflect your needs.
  • Advertising: We also use this information to deliver online offers, our advertisements tailored to you or that may be of interest to you on third party websites, for remarketing or retargeting purposes, and to improve your experience on our sites.
  • Authenticating your computer: We use cookies to gather information such as IP Address and Browser type to authenticate you and your computer.
  • Security and verification: To help us maintain security and verify your details whilst you use the website as you navigate from page to page, which enables you to avoid having to re-enter your details each time you enter a new page.
  • Personalized Content: To remember how you have customized your use of this site, such as your time zone.

Use of Third Parties

We may use third-party providers, such as Adobe Analytics and Google Analytics, to help collect and compile information like the number of visitors to our site, where visitors have come to the site from and the pages they visit. Our third-party providers may also use cookies to deliver advertisements that are more relevant to you and your interests and to help measure the effectiveness of an advertising campaign.

These third parties may collect your IP address or device identifier on the date you visit a site, but not your name or other identifying information. We do not combine information collected through the use of these third-party providers with other personal information we may have about you.

Third-party providers have their own cookie and privacy policies. We recommend that you review any third party's terms of use, privacy policy, permissions, notices and choices regarding their collection, storage and sharing practices since they may be different from ours.  Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Likewise, Adobe’s ability to use and share information collected by Adobe Analytics is restricted by the Adobe Privacy Policy.

Interest-based Advertising

Interest-based advertising allows us to deliver advertisements that are more relevant to you and your interests. It works by showing you advertisements that are based on your browsing patterns and the way you have interacted with this and other sites.

As you browse our site(s), some of the cookies placed on your computer will be advertising cookies, so we can understand what sort of pages you are interested in. We can then display advertising on your browser that is based on these perceived interests. These cookies do not contain personal or financial information about you, but may contain a unique identifier required by the retargeting process. If you access one of these ads, we may also track the response rate and the website activity associated with it.

We also work with third party advertising providers who collect and use information about your visits to this and other sites (but not your name, email address, postal address or phone number) to show you advertising that may be of interest to you. This includes the advertising displayed on our sites and our advertising you may be shown when you are on other third-party websites.

Opting-Out

You can opt out of Adobe Analytics, and out of interest-based Adobe ads using Adobe’s opt-out settings.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on, and out of interest-based Google ads using Google’s Ads Settings.

Even if you opt out, you may still receive our advertising. It just means that the advertising you see will not be customized for you.

Refusing Cookies

Regular cookies may generally be disabled, limited or removed by tools that are available as part of most commercial browsers, and in some but not all instances can be blocked in the future by selecting certain settings. Each browser you use will need to be set separately and different browsers offer different functionality and options in this regard. Also, these tools may not be effective with regard to Flash cookies or HTML5 cookies. For information on disabling Flash cookies go to Adobe's website.  You may also be able to modify your browser settings to require your permission each time a site attempts to set a cookie. However, our website(s) (and many other websites) rely on cookies to enable certain functionality. If you choose to disable cookies, some of the services available on our website may not work properly, and when you revisit our website your ability to limit cookies is subject to your browser settings and limitations.

Caution regarding automatic Cookie Functionality

Browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer allow you to store passwords and logon IDs so you do not need to re-enter this information each time you access a web site. We strongly urge you NOT to use this functionality to prevent unauthorized use of your online accounts.
